She was born here on March 5, 1868, while her parents were living abroad. Tragically, little Sophie’s life was cut short just three months later when she succumbed to pneumonia. Imagine Fyodor and Anna, grappling with their grief in a foreign land. They laid their precious daughter to rest in this very cemetery. The original tomb was later dissolved. However, Sophie’s memory lives on thanks to a plaque donated by the International Dostoevsky Society in 1986. This memorial stands as a testament to a life fleeting but impactful.
