Biology Building

Nestled across from Beijing’s Space City, the National Institute of Biological Sciences, or NIBS, unfolds. The Biology Building at NIBS isn’t just a structure. It’s a hive of activity, covering a sprawling 42,258 square meters. Imagine researchers bustling through its double-corridor laboratory building, a four-and-a-half-meter story structure. This building houses eight laboratories on each floor, flanking a central hub of shared equipment. Picture the controlled environments within: two 4°C cold rooms, a 37°C greenhouse, and even two darkrooms. The Biology Building at NIBS pulses with the rhythm of discovery. Each lab spans 270 square meters. Within these walls, a dedicated 150 square meters provides space for 20 to 30 individuals to conduct experiments. Adjacent learning zones offer a sanctuary for lab directors and researchers to delve into their studies. The Biology Building is more than just labs. A first-floor office building offers a 2,185 square meter space. It includes a lobby, exhibition hall, lecture hall, and a gym. Upstairs, the second floor houses meeting rooms, small classrooms, and a library, occupying 1,287 square meters. The third floor, dedicated to administration, spans a compact 810 square meters. Beneath the surface lies a 3,276 square meter basement, complete with a 100 square meter underground parking garage and a restaurant. The Biology Building at NIBS stands as a testament to the institute’s dedication to research. It complements the Research Activities Building and the Animal and Plant Culture Center. It’s a place where scientific minds converge, pushing the boundaries of biological understanding.
