Gazing at the elegant facade of Cabrini High School, one might sense the echoes of its rich past. Cabrini High School stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of education and service. The school’s story begins not with classrooms, but with an orphanage. In 1892, Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, founder of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, established an orphanage in the French Quarter. By 1905, this space proved too small. A generous donation from Captain Salvatore Pizzati allowed for a new orphanage on Esplanade Avenue. This building eventually became the home of Cabrini High School in 1959. Cabrini High School is an all-girls Catholic school, serving grades 8-12. It stands proudly near City Park and Esplanade Avenue, along Bayou St. John. It’s part of the Archdiocese of New Orleans parochial school system. The school’s motto, “Respect, Excellence, Service,” reflects its dedication to nurturing well-rounded young women. In 1963, the need for a larger school became apparent. The original orphanage, which included the historic Pitot House, was slated for demolition. However, history was preserved. The Pitot House was carefully relocated, allowing for the construction of the modern Cabrini High School building. The school carries on Mother Cabrini’s legacy of education and service. It strives to empower young women from diverse backgrounds. It fosters their talents through academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community service. Cabrini High School is more than bricks and mortar. It is a living testament to the vision of Mother Cabrini and the dedication of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
