The late 19th century saw plans for a new church set in motion, with architect Engelbert Seibertz commissioned to design the grand structure. Construction began in 1897, and the church was consecrated in 1899. It was a groundbreaking project, becoming the first public building in Frankfurt to be fully equipped with electric lighting.

The church’s design is a striking example of Gothic Revival architecture, characterized by its soaring spire and intricate detailing. The high altar, created by Carl Buhl, is particularly noteworthy and it depicts scenes from the life of Jesus in exquisite reliefs.
