Craving a smoother journey? Then look around. This is Terminal 8 at LAX. It’s more than just a place to catch a flight. It’s a testament to modern air travel.

Terminal 8 shares its history and infrastructure with Terminal 7. They function as a unified hub for United Airlines. Originally, Terminal 8 was named Concourse 8 or Satellite 8. This is because it lacked its own passenger processing facilities. It relied on Terminal 7 for ticketing, security, and baggage claim.

The building was redeveloped in 1982 before the 1984 Olympics. A major renovation project costing $546 million was completed in early 2019. This project delivered a world-class passenger experience.

The renovations included an expanded ticketing lobby. It incorporated the latest self-service tools. An improved security screening checkpoint was also part of the upgrade. Comfortable seating options were added. Abundant charging stations were installed. A new nursing room was created. Upgraded restrooms were also a part of the renovation. A pet relief area is coming soon to the concourse. An improved customer service center makes travel easier.

Currently, Terminal 8 is undergoing work to connect it to the future Automated People Mover. Stay alert for gate modifications. Some gates may be closed for periods of time. If you are being dropped off at Terminal 8, stay in the far left lane. Make a left turn across from Terminal 1 where signs point to United/United Express Terminal 7. The lower level shortcut leads to Terminals 5, 6, 7 and 8. The upper level shortcut leads to Terminals 6, 7 and 8.

United Airlines selected HNTB as the prime designer for the complete redevelopment. The scope included redeveloped concession spaces and security checkpoints. Baggage claim and curbside areas were also renovated. This $480 million project involved a phased reconstruction and expansion. The total area is 305,000 sq ft. The project replaced baggage and building systems. It provides a more efficient environment for passengers. It uses state-of-the-art passenger processing technologies.

Terminal 8 stands as a symbol of progress at LAX. It provides United Airlines passengers with comfort and efficiency. As you continue your travels remember the evolution of this terminal.
