Across the street from Gildong Ecology Park sits the enchanting Herb Astronomy Park. It beckons visitors to explore its unique blend of nature and the cosmos. Herb Astronomy Park isn’t just a park. It’s a carefully designed space reflecting the ancient philosophy of Heaven-Earth-Human. This concept is woven into the park’s very structure, dividing it into distinct areas like Jamiwon, Taemiwon, and Cheonsiwon, each representing a piece of this cosmic puzzle. Even the arrangement of trees and facilities follows the principles of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements Theory, creating a harmonious balance. At Herb Astronomy Park, you can track the sun’s journey across the sky. Two observation decks, one facing east and the other west, offer perfect vantage points for sunrise and sunset. As darkness falls, the park transforms into a celestial wonderland. 282 lights twinkle like constellations, their colors shifting and changing, painting a dynamic picture of the night sky. These lights create a massive astronomical map right on the ground, 75 meters in diameter. From the observatories, you can trace the outlines of familiar constellations like Polaris, Altair, and Vega. Herb Astronomy Park is a place for contemplation, a place where the whispers of the universe mingle with the fragrance of herbs.
