Journey back to 1869 with me, to a small village swallowed by time. Cassina Pertusella, once a vibrant community near Milan, met its end when King Vittorio Emanuele II decreed its merger with Caronno Milanese. This seemingly simple act erased Cassina Pertusella from the map, its 415 residents becoming citizens of a new entity: Caronno Pertusella. The village’s story, however, stretches back further. Cassina Pertusella, affectionately known as Pertusella by locals, had a fluctuating administrative history. It existed as an independent municipality under the province of Milan, even briefly joining the Kingdom of Sardinia. Cassina Pertusella held its own alongside Caronno Milanese, sharing a parish church. This shared faith was a cornerstone of their intertwined existence, yet it did not prevent their eventual union. Now, the village is a ghost, its name living on only in whispers and history books. Cassina Pertusella, the small village of “perseghini”, is a testament to the ebb and flow of time and power. Even in its absence, its story reminds us that even the smallest places hold a piece of the larger puzzle of history.
