Beyond the bustling city lies Huoxian Town. This isn’t a town frozen in time. Huoxian Town pulses with a vibrant energy. It’s a blend of old and new, a place where 68,466 people call home as per the 2020 census. Huoxian Town, nestled within Beijing’s Tongzhou District, is bordered by a mix of towns and townships. To the northeast, it meets Xiji Town. Anping Town marks its eastern border. Yongledian Town lies to the south and Yujiawu Hui Township to the southwest. Finally, in the northwest, you’ll find Zhangjiawan Town. Huoxian Town wasn’t always a town. Its history stretches back to the Liao dynasty. It existed then as Huoyin County, part of Xijin Prefecture. Over the centuries, its status and name changed. It became Huo Canton during the Yuan dynasty. It shifted to Huo County during the Ming dynasty. Then, during the Qing dynasty, it became part of the Tongzhou Direct-controlled District. The modern era brought further changes. From 1946 to 1953, it was Matou Township. Then it transitioned to the 3rd District from 1953 to 1958. A brief period followed as the Huoxian Management District under Matou People’s Commune from 1958 to 1961. It then became Huoxian People’s Commune, lasting until 1983. Huoxian Township emerged from 1983 to 1990. Finally, in 1990, Huoxian Town was established. In 2000, it absorbed Caochang Township, and a year later, Mizidian Town also became a part of Huoxian. Today, Huoxian Town encompasses 3 residential communities and 61 villages.
