Tomodachi Elementary School. A simple name for a school with a vibrant history. We stand before Osaka Shiritsu Tomodachi Elementary School, a cornerstone of the Miyakojima Ward community. Established on April 1, 1981, Tomodachi wasn’t simply built. It emerged from a need, a solution to overcrowding at Kosho Elementary. The land designated for a large housing development within Kosho’s district became the new home for Tomodachi. This provided much-needed space and allowed Tomodachi to flourish. Tomodachi Elementary is not just one building. It comprises a main school and a separate branch campus. The main school houses grades 3-6. The branch campus caters to the younger students, grades 1-2. In 2012, the school’s attendance zone saw a significant change. The Zengenji 2-chome area, a large-scale new condominium complex known as Cent Place City, became part of Tomodachi’s district. This influx of new families led to another surge in student enrollment, showcasing the area’s desirability and the school’s continued relevance within this evolving urban landscape. The school song, penned by Takemi Nunomoto and composed by Matsuo Hiroshi, echoes through the halls. It embodies the spirit of Tomodachi. Did you know almost all graduating students move on to Tomodachi Junior High? This close relationship fosters a strong sense of community and continuity in the students’ education. As we stand here, imagine the laughter of children playing in the schoolyard, the dedicated teachers shaping young minds. Tomodachi Elementary School. More than just bricks and mortar.
