Champions Community Baptist Church

Curiosity stirred within me as I approached the Champions Community Baptist Church. This wasn’t just another Sunday service. This was a celebration, a commemoration of 35 years of faith, leadership, and community. Champions Community Baptist Church, established on August 28, 1988, by Pastor Dr. Wendell E. Hutchins II, had become a beacon of hope and spiritual growth in Houston. Starting from humble beginnings in Dr. Hutchins’ living room, the church blossomed into a vibrant congregation, touching lives both locally and globally. Dr. Hutchins, a United Nations Peace Ambassador, led the church with his wife, Ann. Their combined leadership fostered an environment of love, service, and discipleship. Over the 35 years, Champions Community Baptist Church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a catalyst for change, giving birth to numerous impactful ventures. Helping Hands of Champions, Urban Outreach Initiative, and Heritage Preparatory School were just a few examples of the church’s commitment to serving the community. The church also extended its reach beyond its walls. It nurtured other faith communities, including the Cambodian New Life Church and the Chinese Pentecostal Church of Houston. Champions Community Baptist Church fostered a spirit of togetherness and growth, exemplified by their motto “Together, We Climb.” This wasn’t just a slogan. It was a testament to their shared journey of faith, a journey that continued to inspire and uplift. The 35th anniversary wasn’t just a milestone. It was a testament to the enduring power of faith, leadership, and a community united in Christ.
