Gazing upon Sankt Stephanus, one might not guess its vibrant, relatively recent history. This Catholic church in Frankfurt’s Nieder-Eschbach district stands in a neighborhood boasting over 1250 years of history. Sankt Stephanus itself is considerably younger. The church was constructed between 1965 and 1967. Much of the church’s adornments were lovingly crafted over the decades by dedicated members of the parish. Today, Sankt Stephanus serves a lively community of about 1650 members. They gather for services and celebrate the major festivals of the church year together. The first Sunday of each month is particularly lively. Families gather for special services followed by coffee and conversation. During Lent and Advent, the church hosts meditative evening services. Sankt Stephanus also offers social gatherings for seniors. The annual summer parish festival brings together people of all ages.
