Faith United Methodist Church’s story began with a bold resolution. Three congregations Grace, Kingsley, and Trinity sought a united future. Years of discussion led to a merger.

In February 1966 Bishop Lloyd C Wicke granted permission. The three congregations voted on June 6 1966 to merge. The first joint meeting occurred on June 13 1966. Sunday worship and Church School took place in the Grace church building. The Church Office and Fellowship Hall activities were at the Trinity building. Miscellaneous meetings occurred in the Kingsley building. The staff included Reverends Dr F Roderick Dail, Frederick G Hubach, and Billy C Sparkman. Mrs Gladys Kimmerer served as secretary and Mr Steven Anderson as organist-choir director.

The congregation chose a name in the summer of 1966. Members suggested names. Ballots were mailed. Faith was the final choice. The name was presented at the Charge Conference on September 16 1966.

Jeffrey Shaw Feese was the first child baptized at Faith Church on April 30 1967. Reverend Hubach performed the ceremony. The first wedding occurred on March 18 1967. Ruth Grill married Bruce Lake. Reverend Sparkman officiated.

Faith Church sought a new pastor and a Director of Christian Education. Reverend Austin H Armitstead became the new pastor on July 1 1967. He came from Bay Ridge Methodist Church in Brooklyn. His wife Bianca and their three children Nancy, Alan, and John moved into the Delafield Avenue parsonage. Ms Miriam J Crist was hired as Director of Christian Education.

Today Faith United Methodist Church continues its mission. It stands as a diverse open and loving community. Its members reach out with faith hope and love. They make disciples for Jesus Christ. The church offers various programs. These include a food pantry prayer line choir rehearsal and Bible study. Faith United Methodist Church welcomes all. It strives to love God and its neighbors.
