Their focus was on lightweight construction and carbon fiber composite technologies. The city of Augsburg, eager to become the “High-Tech-Standort Bayerns” as Mayor Kurt Gribl put it, embraced this vision. In 2007, the idea for a “Carbon Valley” in the Lechtal emerged, envisioning a thriving environment where industry, research, and urban life melded into a dynamic whole. The park sprawls over 70 hectares, housing research centers like the Fraunhofer Institute and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), along with technological companies.
