How about a peaceful escape right here in the heart of Delhi? I am talking about the serene Saraswati Pond. It is nestled within Nehru Park.
Nehru Park itself is a green haven. It spans 80 acres. Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri laid its foundation stone in 1965. This was in memory of Jawaharlal Nehru. The park officially opened in 1969. Today, it is a leading green space in the city.
But our focus is the Saraswati Pond. It is a revitalized water body. NDMC has taken steps to improve its water quality. The process is called bio-remediation. This helps control algae and odors.
Imagine the pond surrounded by flowering water plants. Fountains dance on the water’s surface. Colorful lights reflect in the evening. A stage deck sits nearby. It is perfect for social events. Sitting areas invite you to relax. All this is Saraswati Pond.
The Saraswati Pond uses treated wastewater. It comes from a nearby CPWD line. A tertiary-level treatment purifies the water. This ensures the pond remains clean and healthy.
To maintain the pond, workers remove any visible contamination. They also deploy aeration machine filters. These filters remove suspended particles from algae collection. Natural algaecide treats the water. It controls algae bloom around the fountains. Bio-fresh enzyme controls odor. Bio-enzymes treat algae in composting pits. Bio-catalyst and oxygen enhancing compounds increase dissolved oxygen levels. Aerators further help with this process.
Nehru Park is popular with diplomats and expatriates. They seek an escape from their busy lives. The park hosts many cultural events. These include art exhibitions and music concerts. The open-air amphitheater is a hub of creativity.
The park also features a life-size alloy statue of Vladimir Lenin. It was installed in 1987. This marked the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution.
The NDMC has added a 3km synthetic walking track. This helps prevent injuries on the rocky terrain. There is also a 2.7km cycling track. It runs along the park’s periphery. Two hundred lamp posts light the track at night.
So next time you need a break. Remember Saraswati Pond in Nehru Park. It is a place to relax, reflect, and enjoy nature’s beauty.
