Awakening from a dream, have you ever felt the lingering magic of its imagery? Here at the Sonho Mural, that dreamlike quality takes on a vibrant, tangible form. The Sonho Mural, meaning “Dream” in Portuguese, isn’t just a splash of color on a wall in the Corujeira district. It’s an invitation, a whisper to the passerby to hold onto their dreams. Created by Portuguese artist Diogo Machado, also known as Add Fuel, the mural is a beautiful fusion of traditional Portuguese azulejo tile patterns and contemporary street art. The mural was part of a nationwide project by the Portuguese Football Federation in support of the national team. Eight artists were invited to create murals across the country, each with the motto “Conquer the dream.” Add Fuel chose the word “Sonha,” meaning “dream” in Portuguese, as the central element of his mural, wanting to inspire those who see it to pursue their own aspirations. The blue and white colors are a nod to both traditional Portuguese tiles and the team’s colors. Look closely, and you’ll find the words “Porto” and “Portugal” subtly woven into the design. Even the patterns themselves incorporate representations of a football, a clever detail for those with a keen eye. Add Fuel spent four intense days bringing this dream to life on the walls of Porto. It’s his first mural in the city, and the harmonious blend of his signature blue and white palette with the city’s aesthetic makes it feel as if it was always meant to be here. The Sonho Mural is more than just a piece of art; it’s a reflection of the city’s spirit, a reminder of the power of dreams, and an encouragement to chase them.
