Hidden within the vibrant tapestry of Montreal’s Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough lies the Église Sainte-Bibiane. It stands as a silent testament to a bygone era. The canonical erection of Église Sainte-Bibiane took place on July 26, 1952. The church building itself rose from the ground just a few years later, between 1954 and 1955. Église Sainte-Bibiane served the community for decades. It was a hub of spiritual life until its closure in 2009. The parish’s territory was then absorbed by the Saint-Esprit-de-Rosemont parish. The area has a rich history, deeply intertwined with Montreal’s growth. Originally part of the village of La Côte La Visitation, established in 1871, it later became known as Lorimier. Both Lorimier and the neighboring village of Rosemont, became part of Montreal in the early 20th century. Over the years, Église Sainte-Bibiane saw several spiritual leaders guide its congregation. J. Hervé Leduc was the first, serving from 1952 to 1963. Henri Lauzon followed, then Raynald Théorêt, Jean Claude Boisvert, and finally Robert Boivin. Though the church is now closed, its story and the history of the surrounding area remain woven into the fabric of Montreal.
