Can a university exist primarily online? Universitario Tecnológico Universitam proves it’s possible. This institution, with its main campus in Mexico, has built a vibrant digital learning community that reaches students across Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Africa. Universitario Tecnológico Universitam began in 2009 as a social network connecting university students and professors. The platform quickly gained popularity, hosting a science and technology news program that drew an impressive 120,000 monthly visits between 2010 and 2013. By 2012, Universitario Tecnológico Universitam introduced a virtual campus. This allowed professors to supplement their in-person classes with online courses. The platform boasted a catalog of 320 courses, laying the groundwork for its future as a fully online university. In 2013, Universitario Tecnológico Universitam developed a virtual university project for a university in Tijuana. This experience further refined its online education model. Between 2013 and 2015, the institution meticulously designed virtual classrooms for master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs in education. Universitario Tecnológico Universitam also ventured into developing curriculum for other institutions, creating programs in dental technology and family law. In 2017, Universitario Tecnológico Universitam officially became Universitario Tecnológico Terra At Mundi Universitam SAS. It gained recognition as a research institution and began its academic validation and certification processes. That same year, it launched online postdoctoral programs in fields like education, psychology, sociology, philosophy, and administration and finance. This international network of scholars included prominent doctors from various countries. The university expanded its offerings to include online bachelor’s degrees in 2018 and doctoral programs in 2019. Universitario Tecnológico Universitam emphasizes student autonomy and self-paced learning. Students can accelerate their studies or take breaks without penalty, fostering a flexible learning environment. The university prides itself on its commitment to high-quality education and promotes values such as peace, environmental protection, and ethical conduct.
