It closed in 2018 leaving a void. Children were bused far away. The school sat empty. Except for a small non-profit working hard to keep the children’s spirits up. They also had the annual Manton Apple Festival. This was a bright spot in the town’s life.
But the community didn’t give up. In 2022 they rallied. They raised money to buy the old school campus. The Manton Parks non-profit was formed. This was a turning point. They secured funds. Eighty-six thousand dollars came from community donations. A generous seventy-five thousand dollars arrived from the McConnell Foundation. In October 2023 the campus was theirs.
Now Manton Parks is busy making improvements. They offer after-school programs. A youth library. Gathering spaces. This was the once-empty school. Now it thrives. It pulses with life again.
