Founded in 1955 Chanel College stands proudly in Coolock Dublin. It’s a testament to the Marist Fathers’ dedication to education. Initially just twelve pupils attended. The school’s name honours Saint Peter Chanel the first Marist to be canonised. This happened the year before the college opened. The main school building was constructed later in the late 1960s. Chanel College is one of three schools established by the Marist Fathers in Ireland. The others are St Mary’s College Dundalk and Catholic University School Dublin.

Chanel College is more than just a school. It’s a vital part of the Coolock community. For many years it had extensive sports facilities. In 2012 some sports fields were transferred to the neighbouring Parnells GAA club. This allowed for a new state-of-the-art sports complex to be built. The complex includes floodlit all-weather pitches and a social centre. Chanel College pupils still benefit from access to these excellent facilities. The sale of some of the college campus to developers funded this upgrade. New private housing now stands on the grounds.

Chanel College isn’t just focused on academics. It actively engages with the wider community. Since 2001 it has participated in Civic Link. This program promotes links between schools in different parts of Ireland. Initially partnered with St Joseph’s High School Derry the college has since collaborated with other schools including Knockbreda High School Belfast and Ballycastle High School County Antrim. Currently Chanel College is linked with Keithryan High School County Antrim. The college also joined the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship programme in 2006.

Chanel College has nurtured many notable alumni. These include Terence Flanagan a Dublin City Councillor and former TD Patrick Joseph McGrath Bishop of San Jose Alex White a politician and G V Wright a senator and TD. The school’s legacy extends far beyond its walls. It’s a place where young men receive a quality education. It’s a vibrant hub of community activity. Chanel College is a testament to the enduring power of education and faith. It’s a place where generations of students have learned grown and contributed to Irish society. Remember the school’s story as you leave today. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living legacy.
