This isn’t just a building it’s a living breathing story. It began in 1965 not here in Houston but in Salinas California. A small group of dedicated Christians met in Sister Richardson’s home. They felt a need for a Baptist church in their area. After much prayer and guidance they sought support from other churches. Reverend Gosby E Hooks became their first pastor. Mount Nebo’s early years were full of growth. They needed a larger building. They found one on Alisal Street. Then they moved again to 563 Roosevelt Street. Reverend Hooks served for eight years. He laid a strong foundation for the church. Reverend Willie B White followed his leadership. Under his guidance a new church building was constructed. Opening services were held in 1975. Reverend Al Davis became Mount Nebo’s third pastor. He led the church for thirty-three years. The church thrived under his leadership. A bus ministry was implemented. Two Spanish churches were even planted. Reverend Anthony Davis was installed as pastor in 2016. He embraced technology using online platforms to connect with the congregation. Then came 2020 and a pandemic. Services went online. Yet the church persevered. In 2023 Greater Mount Nebo Baptist Church moved to a new worship center.
