“Without knowledge there’s no salvation.” That’s the powerful motto of Daulat Ram College, a sentiment echoing through its halls since 1960. Founded by the visionary Shri Daulat Ram Gupta, the college started as Pramila College with just 350 students. It was located on Tilak Marg.

Now, standing here, you see Daulat Ram College in its full glory. It is a premier educational institution for women. Imagine it back in 1964 when it moved to this North Delhi University campus. It was then renamed Daulat Ram College.

Daulat Ram College quickly evolved. It became a prestigious women’s college with its own distinct culture. The college imparts Bachelor’s degrees in Arts, Science, and Commerce. It also offers Master’s levels.

Notable figures have walked these very paths. Aishe Ghosh, a student activist, and Anjana Om Kashyap, a senior journalist, are both alumni. Even Rekha Gupta, former Chief Minister of Delhi, once studied here.

The college building itself has a story. Constructed in the 1960s, it was expanded to accommodate more students. Daulat Ram College is one of the few in Delhi University with a ramp entry. This was widened in 2002. A modern seminar hall, new classrooms, and science labs were added over time.

The library is a treasure trove. It holds over 80,000 titles. The Department of Physical Education offers facilities for various sports. These include gymnastics and table tennis.

Daulat Ram College celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1985. The foundation stone of the Sadbhavana Bhavan auditorium was laid then. This auditorium can seat 1300 people. It has one of the largest stages in the city.

Today, Daulat Ram College has over 2000 students. There are 126 teaching staff and 90 non-teaching staff. The college has 19 departments.

Daulat Ram College’s journey embodies the spirit of women’s education. From its humble beginnings to its current status, it continues to empower generations of women. Its legacy of knowledge and empowerment lives on.
