Founded in 1921 the Amanda Flipper African Methodist Episcopal Church stands as a testament to faith and community. A group of believers lacking a church home in their Davis Street neighborhood formed this congregation. Rev TM King led the effort. Their first location was at 173 Davis Street later renamed Northside Drive.

The church’s name honors Bishop Joseph Simeon Flipper’s wife. He served as the 33rd Bishop of the Sixth Episcopal District from 1912 to 1928. This powerful connection highlights the church’s deep roots within the AME tradition. The current building? Acquired much later on September 4 1990 during Rev Ronnie E Brailsford Sr’s pastorate.

Amanda Flipper AME Church boasts a rich history of leadership. In 1994 Rev Nicolene Angela Durham became the first female pastor. She brought a unique style of ministry focusing on homeless women and children. Rev Durham was also the first female delegate from the Sixth District to the 1996 and 2000 General Conferences of the AME Church. Her work significantly impacted the Atlanta community.

The church continues to serve as a refuge a place of peace and understanding. It’s a beacon of hope for the lost lonely broken faithless and friendless. This legacy started in 1921 continues to thrive today. The Amanda Flipper African Methodist Episcopal Church is more than just a building.
