“What was once just an idea has transformed into a vibrant reality right before your eyes.” That’s Manhattan West, a 7-million-square-foot mixed-use development. It stands as a testament to modern urban planning. This project is part of the Hudson Yards Redevelopment. Manhattan West covers 8 acres.
Here you’ll find four office towers. There is a boutique hotel, a residential building, and 225,000 square feet of retail space. A 2.5-acre public plaza invites you to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Remarkably, Manhattan West was built on a platform. This platform is over Penn Station storage tracks, along Ninth Avenue between 32nd and 33rd Streets.
The North tower, One Manhattan West, is a standout feature. It soars 995 feet making it one of the tallest buildings in New York City. The grand opening was September 28, 2021, marking a new chapter for this area.
The story of Manhattan West began in the 1990s. Ground was broken in January 2013. By 2014, a $680 million platform over train tracks was complete. This platform paved the way for the development we see today.
In 2015, the Qatar Investment Authority invested in the project. This investment helped bring the vision of Manhattan West to life. Manhattan West is integral to the Hudson Yards Redevelopment. This redevelopment aims to revitalize the area west of Pennsylvania Station.
During the summer of 2020, something whimsical appeared. It was called Citrovia. This outdoor garden featured constructed lemon trees with hand-painted lemon slices. It was created to hide scaffolding.
Manhattan West officially opened in September 2021. A $50 million plan was announced. It was for pedestrian bridges connecting the High Line and Manhattan West. This project broke ground in February 2022. It is called the Moynihan Connector.
Manhattan West is bordered by Ninth and Tenth Avenues. It lies between 31st and 33rd Streets. It is next to Moynihan Train Hall and Hudson Yards. The development includes six buildings. They are One and Two Manhattan West, the Lofts, and Five Manhattan West. The Pendry Manhattan West Hotel and The Eugene apartment building are here too. Magnolia Court is the central plaza. It’s a 2.5-acre pedestrian space for everyone to enjoy.
One Manhattan West was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Construction started in 2015. The building’s structure is unique. Its perimeter columns do not reach ground level on all sides. They transfer to the core above the lobby.
Two Manhattan West was also designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It was completed in January 2024. Law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore is a major tenant here. Global accounting firm KPMG will move its U.S. headquarters here in 2025.
The Eugene is a 64-story residential building. It has 844 apartments. Some are market-rate, and some are affordable. The Pendry Manhattan West is a 21-story hotel. It has 164 guest rooms and opened in September 2021.
Five Manhattan West was originally a distribution center. It was redesigned with a glass facade. Tenants include Amazon and Peloton Interactive’s studio. The Lofts offer flexible workspace and office space.
Manhattan West offers a variety of dining and shopping venues. These include Casa Dani, Zou Zou’s, and Public Rec. Justin Davidson noted that Manhattan West feels human-centered, unlike Hudson Yards.
