It might surprise you to know that this lively area was once a sparse, rocky terrain at the foothills of the Sahyadri range. Picture this: a time before the concrete jungle, when Amrut Nagar was a haven of open spaces and fresh air. The transformation began in the 1960s with the Dev Shetty colony, followed by the construction of Shashi Niwas, the first building in the area, in 1965. As Mumbai burgeoned, so did Amrut Nagar. Employees of companies like Mazagon Dock Limited and Ciba-Geigy saw an opportunity and established their own housing colonies. From those humble beginnings, Amrut Nagar flourished, eventually encompassing bustling streets, a mix of residential complexes, and local businesses. Interestingly, one of the most expensive apartment complexes in Amrut Nagar, Sagar Park, stands on what was once a part of this rugged landscape. Even today, remnants of its past can be found in the name of the road connecting Amrut Nagar to LBS Marg. That road, starting near the R City Mall, leads to the Amrut Nagar Circle – a constant reminder of the neighborhood’s transformation from a rocky outcrop to a vibrant hub of Mumbai.
