It was founded by the American Presbyterian Mission, originally called “Kullasatri Wanglang”. This school was located in the Royal Palace, now part of the Siriraj Hospital grounds. Wattana Wittaya was groundbreaking as Thailand’s first boarding school for girls, also pioneering kindergarten education. In 1921, Miss Edna S. Cole moved the school to its current location on Sukhumvit 19. The name was changed to “Wattana Wittaya Academy”. The school is known for its academic rigor and its commitment to creating well-rounded individuals. To this day, its motto is “Honesty, Discipline, Commitment to education, Citizenship, Upholding religion and the Monarchy”. The curriculum encompasses a range of subjects, from traditional academic subjects like math and science, to language immersion programs in Chinese, Japanese, and French. Wattana Wittaya is renowned for its impressive English Intensive program. The school also offers a wide array of activities from choir to debate teams. However, one fascinating fact about Wattana Wittaya is its distinctive open-air loudspeaker system that delivers announcements from 7am until 9pm.
