In 1935, a small prayer band gathered in a humble home in Acres Home, Houston. This marked the beginning of Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church. Their faith resonated through the community, growing stronger with each shared prayer. Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church soon found a permanent home on Paul Quinn Street, a plot of land purchased from Lonnie and Ruth Mason in 1936. Picture a simple tent on dirt floors, devoid of basic utilities like lights, gas, or water. This was the first physical embodiment of Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church. A small, 14×20 foot building was later constructed, gradually expanding over time, a testament to the burgeoning congregation. The final payment to the Masons for the land was made in 1938, solidifying the church’s presence. Rev. Paul Jackson, the prayer band’s chosen leader, became the first pastor of Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church in 1936. He shepherded the congregation through its formative years. Rev. I.V. Hillard briefly served as the second pastor in 1976-1977. Rev. James Roy Jackson, the third pastor, took the helm from December 1977 to 1995. He spearheaded the construction of a new church building, a remarkable feat accomplished without incurring debt. The congregation moved into this new sanctuary on October 21, 1990. Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church has seen a succession of pastors since then, each contributing to its rich history. Rev. J. Davis served from 1996-1998. Rev. Earnest Booker briefly pastored in 1999. On Easter Sunday in April 2000, Rev. Archie Thompson became the sixth pastor, bringing with him a renewed vision for Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church. He emphasized sound doctrine and biblical principles, delivering messages that resonated with people from all walks of life. Saint Pauls Missionary Baptist Church has always been more than just a building. It is a beacon of faith in the Acres Home community, a place where people come together to worship, learn, and connect with God. The church’s motto reflects its mission: “Come together to enjoy God together, then we scatter to share Him with others.”
