What secrets do these ancient walls hold? Right here, before you, stands the Museu de Penafiel. The Museu de Penafiel occupies a special place in the heart of Penafiel. The Museu de Penafiel was founded in 1948. It has been carefully curated for over seventy-five years. The museum first resided in the palacete of Barão do Calvário, sharing space with the Court and Library. Today, the Museu de Penafiel is housed in the beautifully restored Pereira do Lago palace on Rua do Paço. Architects Fernando Távora and Bernardo Távora redesigned the palace. The Museu de Penafiel isn’t just a building. It’s a journey through time. The museum features five thematic rooms in its permanent exhibition. These rooms, dedicated to Identity, Territory, Archeology, Crafts, Earth and Water, offer a clear and modern exhibition. The Museu de Penafiel also manages four external museum centers. These centers provide an even deeper dive into the rich history of the region.
