In 1972, a man named Apostle William Brown felt a powerful call to leave the corporate world and dedicate his life to ministry. This marked the humble beginnings of the Salvation and Deliverence Church. Apostle Brown began his journey leading evangelistic crusades throughout New York City and beyond. He also nurtured a small congregation in a rented space within an African Methodist Episcopalian Church on 132nd Street. These early efforts culminated in a significant milestone for the Salvation and Deliverence Church: the establishment of its first dedicated house of worship in 1975. Right here at 113-115 West 128th Street, the Salvation and Deliverence Church celebrated its first physical home. Tragically, just as the church began to flourish, a devastating fire destroyed the building in April 1975. The Salvation and Deliverence Church family persevered. They found temporary refuge at Mount Morris A.M.E. Church, holding services on Friday and Sunday evenings. The congregation’s spirit remained unbroken, even with a changed schedule. Apostle Brown’s unwavering faith led the church to its next home at 951 Westchester Avenue in the Bronx on New Year’s Eve, 1976. The Salvation and Deliverence Church continued to thrive, witnessing growth in both its congregation and spiritual depth. The church’s commitment to preaching the gospel with demonstrable power resonated deeply. Healing, deliverance, and miracles became integral to the church’s identity. By 1978, the congregation had once again outgrown its space. This led them to their current headquarters, the very building we stand before today at 37 West 116th Street. The Salvation and Deliverence Church, known as the “Church built by the young people”, prioritizes sanctification and personal holiness. The church embraces a diverse, interracial, and international congregation, united by a shared belief in the power of the Holy Ghost and the pursuit of a life pleasing to God. The Salvation and Deliverence Church stands as a testament to Apostle Brown’s vision and the enduring faith of its community. Here, they emphasize spiritual growth, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and the transformative power of faith.
