Did you know that Bxf6vinghausen was first mentioned in a document as far back as 882? That’s a staggering amount of history right here before us. This unassuming suburb of Dortmund holds a story woven from humble beginnings to industrial might.

Bxf6vinghausen wasn’t always the thriving community we see today. In 1818 a mere 147 people lived in 16 houses. It was a small farming village nestled along the Provinzialstraxdfe. A road Napoleon had built in 1808. This road was crucial for the postal service. Travelers would change horses at the inn on Provinzialstraxdfe 398. Can you imagine the clatter of hooves and the rumble of the stagecoach?

The quiet life of Bxf6vinghausen was dramatically altered in the mid-1800s. The area experienced a coal boom. Four mines opened nearby between 1853 and 1858. The construction of the Emschertalbahn in 1878 was a game-changer. This railway line transported the coal. The increasing train traffic necessitated the construction of the Bxf6vinghauser Bridge. It’s still standing today. Bxf6vinghauser Straxdfe runs over it.

Then came the Zeche Zollern II/IV. Built between 1898 and 1904 this mine was state-of-the-art. It featured the world’s first electric hoisting engine. This innovation powered the streets of Bxf6vinghausen. It provided the very first electric street lighting. Imagine the wonder of seeing electric light for the first time in this previously dark village.

This industrial progress brought a wave of new residents. Primarily workers from Prussia and Silesia. Bxf6vinghausen’s population exploded from 531 in 1895 to 1124 by the start of the 20th century. To accommodate this growing workforce garden city-style worker housing was built. First came the Landwehr colony. Later two additional settlements were built near the Ober- and Unterdelle. These homes remain a visible part of Bxf6vinghausen.

In 1909 Westrich was incorporated into Bxf6vinghausen. The combined population surged. The railway station needed expansion. Two churches were also erected one Catholic and one Protestant. This spared locals the long journey to Lxfcgendortmund.

After years of debate Bxf6vinghausen was finally incorporated into Dortmund in 1928. It became a valuable addition to the city. A new post office opened and a police station with a sobering cell popularly known as the “Pittermxe4nnken”.

The Zeche Zollern II/IV closed in 1954 due to rising costs. The final coal car emerged on October 1st. Today Bxf6vinghausen is a mix of residential areas and remnants of its industrial past. It is a living testament to a small village transformed by industrial revolution. The Zeche Zollern II/IV is now a museum a prominent part of the Route of Industrial Culture. The past resonates in Bxf6vinghausen. It is a fascinating blend of history industry and modern life.
