Gazing at St Matthias Anglican Church, one might initially see just a simple structure. But embedded within its walls are tales of devotion and community. St Matthias Anglican Church stands proudly on Murphy Road in Zillmere, Queensland. The current building, consecrated on April 1, 1973, by Archbishop Arnott, replaced an earlier wooden church. This newer structure has its own story to tell. On August 28, 1965, the foundation stone was laid and blessed by Archbishop Philip of Brisbane. The stone itself bears an inscription. It reads: “A M D G – This foundation stone – of the – Church of Saint Matthias – was set and blessed – by – Philip – Archbishop of Brisbane – on Saturday 28th August 1965.” While the exact opening date of the original wooden church remains a mystery, the church’s history is a testament to the enduring faith of the Zillmere community. St Matthias Anglican Church continues to serve its community, offering a place of worship and connection.
