Haven’t you heard? San Vicente in Córdoba was born from philanthropy. Picture Agustín Garzón a generous landowner. He carved out this town back in 1870.

San Vicente got its start as Bajo de Ariza. That was the original name. Garzón named it San Vicente. He honored Saint Vincent de Paul. This area transformed over time.

Initially it was a summer escape. Córdoba’s upper class flocked here. They sought cool breezes and weekend relaxation. Some were farmers seeking respite.

The late 19th century brought industry. Factories reshaped San Vicente. Lime kilns fired up in 1897. Molinos Minetti also arrived. Middle and working-class families moved in.

San Vicente embraced progress. The early 20th century saw more change. Barrio Kronfuss arose in the 1920s. It was Córdoba’s first planned worker neighborhood. Its design featured a neocolonial style. You could also see hints of German baroque.

Industry boomed mid-century. Companies like Czaki and Whellam set up shop. San Vicente became a hub of production. However the 1970s and 80s brought closures. Factories shuttered their doors.

San Vicente then reinvented itself again. It shifted to residential and commercial. San Jerónimo Street became its central artery. Today San Vicente is a blend of old and new.

Imagine grand old houses. These mix with modern buildings. A few high-rises dot the landscape. Most are found along San Jerónimo Street.

San Vicente is known for its culture. The Centro Cultural San Vicente stands proudly. It has operated since 1981. It is housed in the old Marcos Juárez Municipal Market. The market itself dates back to 1886.

Don’t forget San Vicente’s Carnival. The tradition began in 1885. Residents sought to rival downtown celebrations. In 1932 the military mayor tried to ban it. He considered the competition pointless. Residents protested fiercely. They even created the Republic of San Vicente. It was symbolic. They appointed authorities and designed a flag. The city government backed down. The people had won.

San Vicente embraces its artistic side. The homes of painters Malanca and Vidal stand here. Their works are displayed in the Museo Evita. “El Chúcaro” also lived here. He was a renowned folk dancer. And there’s the unique Casa Eiffel.

Explore the churches too. Visit the schools. Wander through the cemetery. Find the Memorial of the Disappeared. Discover the Cult to Ramonita. San Vicente offers a deep dive into Córdoba’s roots.

San Vicente keeps its history alive. It celebrates its unique identity. Come experience San Vicente. Its vibrant culture and rich past will fascinate you.
