“Small scale special recognition system?” You might wonder what that is. It is the system that defines Uji Municipal Kasatori Elementary School. This school lies before you. It is located in western Kasatori in Uji City Kyoto.

Kasatori Elementary School is a public elementary school. It lies nestled in the mountains of Uji. The school cherishes its history from the Meiji era. It actively promotes local education.

The school adopted the small scale special recognition system in 2001. This allows children from outside the school district to enroll. Kasatori Elementary School fosters rich human qualities. It aims to cultivate the power to live. The school provides education that supports this goal.

Kasatori Elementary School was established in March 1873. A new school building was completed in April 1884. In March 1887 the school was renamed Kasatori Jinjo Elementary School.

In April 1889 the school merged due to the town and village system enforcement. The main school was placed in eastern Kasatori. Branch schools were established in various locations.

All branch schools separated from the main school in April 1906. A new school building was completed in April 1909. The grounds were expanded in October 1914.

In April 1941 it was renamed Kasatori National School. This was due to the National School Order. In April 1947 it became Kasatori Elementary School. This change was part of the school system reform.

In April 1951 Uji City was established. The school’s name changed to Uji Municipal Kasatori Elementary School. A school building completion ceremony was held in October 1954.

The school established its flag and song in March 1961. Complete school lunch services began in April 1966. A pool was completed in August 1968. Branch schools were consolidated into the main school in April 1971.

Combined classes were dissolved in January 1975. The school dissolved combined classes for first and second graders in April 1977. Color TVs were installed in classrooms in April 1979.

In March 1984 the school building was fully renovated. This included the school building and gymnasium. Kasatori Elementary School hosted the 34th National Local Education Research Conference in October 1985.

The school received the Sawaka Prize and Encouragement Prize in 1997. It was designated a local multimedia research development school in April 1998. Pool renovation work was completed in March 1999. The small scale special recognition system started in April 2001.

Today Uji Municipal Kasatori Elementary School continues its work. It provides education enriched by nature. It also benefits from a small scale environment.
