In 1976, a chemical plant in the nearby town of Meda experienced a catastrophic accident. A cloud of dioxin, one of the most toxic substances on Earth, swept over a large area, impacting the surrounding towns of Meda, Seveso, Cesano Maderno, and Desio. The air hung heavy with fear as the contaminated area, known as Zone A, was evacuated and sealed off. The land, a once vibrant ecosystem, lay desolate. A passionate group of citizens, led by the courageous Agronomo Paolo Lassini, fought to reclaim the land. Through years of dedication, they cleared the toxic soil and planted new trees and vegetation. In 1986, Parco Naturale Bosco delle Querce, a testament to resilience, was born. The park is a vibrant green oasis, a place where nature has begun to heal the scars left by the past. The majestic oaks, ashes, maples, and elm trees provide a haven for a diverse range of birds, squirrels, and other wildlife.
