Here stands the School of Mechanical Engineering. It is part of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This school boasts a rich history. It shapes the future of Vietnam’s technical landscape.

Let’s step back in time. We will explore the School of Mechanical Engineering’s evolution. Its roots trace back to 1956. At that time, the Faculty of Mechanical – Electrical was established. It was part of Hanoi University of Technology.

In 1960, it became the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Metallurgy. Then in 1966, it split into three faculties. These were Manufacturing Technology, Dynamics, and Metallurgy. This division reflected the growing specialization within the field.

The School of Mechanical Engineering was re-established in November 1995. It was formed from specialized faculties. These faculties focused on Mechanical Technology, Engineering Mechanics, and Dynamic Mechanics. The industry of Refrigeration and thermal equipment split off in 2000. It became the Institute of Heat and Refrigeration Science and Technology.

In 2006, the mechanical engineering industry split again. It formed the School of Kinetic Engineering. Finally, in 2009, the School of Mechanical Engineering was established. It was based on the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

In October 2021, a significant merger occurred. The School of Heat Engineering and Refrigeration joined. Also, the School of Transportation Engineering merged with the School of Mechanical Engineering. This created the new version of the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Today, the School of Mechanical Engineering has 4 faculties. It offers 6 majors and 13 training programs. These include Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronic Engineering. Also Dynamic Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, and Thermal Engineering are offered.

The school has nearly 300 experienced lecturers and employees. They work across 4 faculties and 3 centers. The School of Mechanical Engineering provides comprehensive training. It covers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.

The school’s educational philosophy is clear. “Education must embrace production.” “Theory must be associated with practice.” “Learning must incorporate experiments.” Also “the school must keep pace with social development.” This philosophy guides the school’s approach to education.

The School of Mechanical Engineering is now autonomous. Hanoi University of Science and Technology granted this autonomy. It manages training programs and organizes training. It also researches science and transfers technology.

International cooperation strengthens the school. Student exchange programs are common. This expanded school supports professional staff development. It meets the growing demands of training. Also it helps with scientific research and technology transfer. It contributes to Vietnam’s modernization.
