“Never forget.” That’s the solemn promise etched in our hearts as we gather here at the 9/11 Memorial in San Diego. This memorial stands as a heartfelt tribute. It honors those who perished. Even the U.S. Customs and Border Protection San Diego Field Office pauses. They briefly halt northbound traffic operations at land ports of entry. This commemorates the anniversary of the attacks. The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce teams up with local businesses. Together, they provide free meals to fire and police stations. This small act honors the bravery and sacrifice of these everyday heroes.
The San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a unique and powerful experience. Firefighters, public safety officers, civilians, and families gather. They honor the memories of those lost. Participants climb 110 flights of stairs. This represents the same number of flights in the Twin Towers. Climbers wear the name of a fallen emergency responder. They climb in memory of the 343 FDNY, 23 NYPD, and 37 Port Authority heroes. This event raises awareness of the sacrifices made by firefighters everywhere.
