Amidst the San Gabriel Mountains foothills, lies Saint Bede The Venerable Church. It has served the La Cañada community for almost seventy years. The original mission-style building, with its iconic tile roof and bell tower, opened its doors on Christmas Day in 1952. Saint Bede The Venerable Church initially served 73 families. La Cañada was experiencing a post-World War II population boom. By the mid-1960s, the church was overflowing during mass. A new, modern church was built next door. It could hold 900 worshippers. This new structure opened in 1968. The original building became the parish hall. Today, Saint Bede The Venerable Church continues to be a vital part of the community. It offers various services. These include daily and weekend masses, confessions on Saturdays, and special devotions like the Perpetual Help Novena and Mom’s Rosary. The church also hosted a capital campaign called “Anew.” The goal was to raise $11.5 million for a new parish hall and multipurpose annex. This campaign highlights Saint Bede’s commitment to serving future generations. The church seeks to adapt to the evolving needs of the community while honoring its rich history.
