Ready to step into a green lung right in the city? We are here at Seri Thai Park. Once a large pond, Seri Thai Park has transformed into a vital reservoir. It helps Bangkok combat flooding.

Seri Thai Park was redeveloped in 1997. It was named to honor the Seri Thai. This was the Free Thai Movement of World War II. Before its transformation, this area was known as Bueng Khum. Some also knew it as Bueng Ta Thong.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej initiated a project. This project aimed to revise and develop the park. The goal was to create a large rainwater reservoir. This would serve the eastern part of Bangkok. It helped prevent inundation. Simultaneously, the surrounding area of 14.4 hectares was also developed.

In 1987, the park’s responsibility shifted. It went under the Department of Environment. By 1996, it expanded significantly. It then covered 41.6 hectares of land. This expansion aligned with the “Forest Park Development Project of BMA”. It was part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. This commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne.

Initially, it was named Bueng Khum Water Park. Later, it was renamed Seri Thai Park. This honored the Seri Thai Movement. Seri Thai Park officially opened on August 16, 1997. This date marked the 52nd Anniversary Day of Thai Peace Day.

What makes Seri Thai Park unique? It maintains its natural characteristics. This is due to its adaptation to the former pond. The park atmosphere is filled with large shady trees. These trees are allocated along with water streams. This gives a natural feeling for visitors.

Seri Thai Park offers more than just natural beauty. There are playgrounds here. You can find outdoor weight training grounds. Pavilions also dot the landscape. For those interested in agriculture, there is a fruit orchard.

A special feature of Seri Thai Park is its Free Thai Memorial Library and Museum. This museum commemorates the movement. This park stands as a testament to nature’s resilience. It is also a tribute to Thai history. So take a moment to breathe. Enjoy the tranquility of Seri Thai Park.
