Ammersbek-Niederung is a vital part of Ammersbek. Ammersbek itself is quite interesting. It is not a beachside town. Nor does it have a centuries-old historic Town Hall.

Ammersbek is a bedroom community. People come here to relax after working hard in Hamburg. Ammersbek is part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. It is about half an hour from Hamburg’s city center. You can travel there by U1 Subway and bus lines.

Sightseeing in Ammersbek is limited. But, the Heidkoppelmoor is here. This nature area is the biggest draw to this town. It spans 17 square kilometers. As you walk or bike around, you’ll see pastures and wetlands. You will also see many plants and animal species.

Ammersbek has over 30km of wonderful cycle and walking paths. Riders have different riding paths too. The Lottbeker reservoir serves as nearby recreation. The Timmerhorner Ponds are also close.

The community of Ammersbek was founded in 1978. It came about through the merging of Bünningstedt and Hoisbüttel. These villages likely emerged between the 5th and 8th centuries. You can tell by the endings “stedt” and “-büttel.”

Hoisbüttel was first recorded in 1262. Half of Hoisbüttel was pledged to Hamburg in 1437. This led to tensions and disputes because the people of Hamburg lived better. In 1803, the Hamburger part became Holstein again. In 1926, the department and estate merged. This formed an independent community of Hoisbüttel.

The building of the housing estate Lottbek started in 1963. The old Lottbek probably fell victim to the plague. This led to a population increase. Many small businesses settled here. A school was built. Canalization was extended. The road and traffic net was improved.

Bünningstedt was first recorded in 1314. The housing estates Daheim and Heimgarten were developed in 1932.

Today, Ammersbek has about 9,500 citizens. Many companies developed. Rural living spaces and cultural facilities are available. Traffic connections to Hamburg, Ahrensburg, and Bargteheide are convenient. You can also easily reach the Baltic Sea area.

Ammersbek-Niederung itself became a protected area in 2002. It has the protection class 4.
