In 1949, a small group of faithful Lutherans gathered in a humble elementary school off Tidwell. This marked the beginning of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church carries this legacy forward. They first held services with over 30 attendees. For a year and a half, the school served as their spiritual home. Then, in 1950, ten acres of land at 215 Rittenhouse were acquired. This would become their south campus. By October 1951, services began in the unfinished building of Christ Redeemer Lutheran. The congregation grew quickly. By 1955, they had established a Lutheran school and boasted over 300 members. Christ Redeemer Lutheran’s history intertwined with another congregation, Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Founded in 1968 at a meeting held at Our Redeemer, Beautiful Savior quickly established itself. They purchased nine acres on West Road and established their own school by 1972. Even after facing challenges that forced them to meet elsewhere temporarily, Beautiful Savior persevered. They ultimately found a new permanent home in Spring, which is now Christ Redeemer Lutheran’s north campus. In 2018, these two congregations, Our Redeemer and Beautiful Savior, formally merged. They became Beautiful Savior Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. This union cemented a long-standing connection. Today, Christ Redeemer Lutheran Church stands as a testament to the enduring faith of its members. It continues to serve the community.
