The Chocolate Covered Wagon carries on the legacy of the Trolley Taffy Station. For over 28 years the Trolley Taffy Station delighted customers in Trolley Square. They were famous for their Old Fashioned Salt Water Taffy. A secret recipe using real salt from the Great Salt Lake made it unique. Each piece was hand-wrapped.
Cindy Robison the original owner recognized the potential of her Salt Water Taffy. She coined the memorable slogan “Have a Good Old Fashioned Taste of Utah”. People traveled from across the country to sample this taste of Utah. They loved watching the taffy being pulled. The Trolley Taffy Station also made gourmet caramel corn and other sweet treats. But the taffy was the star.
After many years the Trolley Taffy Station moved. It relocated to Historic Gardner Village in West Jordan. There it became the Chocolate Covered Wagon. The name changed but the tradition continued. They still use the old taffy puller. They still make that famous Salt Water Taffy. But they expanded their offerings. Now they also sell caramel apples. In one month they sold over 17000 caramel apples. That’s a lot of apples! They also make fudge toffee popcorn and other chocolate creations. Even an Olympic pin was created based on their taffy. It was the 13th most popular pin from the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
