Founded in 1976 Christian Fellowship Cathedral Baptist Church has a rich history. It began as a small group meeting in the home of Sister Lillian Johnson. They chose the name Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. The church was sanctioned by the First District Missionary Baptist Association. Reverend Moses S Gordon II became the first pastor.

For a time the church met in the Claiborne-Jones Temple. Later they moved to a building on General Taylor Street. This became their first permanent home. The congregation continued to grow. They eventually moved to a new location on Prytania Street.

Hurricane Katrina caused significant damage to the church in 2005. Services were held temporarily at First African Baptist Church. That building unfortunately burned down in 2011. The Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church showed incredible resilience. They rebuilt and in 2013 they moved back to a renovated building on General Taylor Street. This was a full circle moment for the church. It returned to the community it served. The Christian Fellowship Cathedral Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and perseverance.
