Sweeping across the Pearl River Delta, the New Zhukeng Great Bridge is a modern marvel. It’s a vital piece of the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link. This impressive bridge-tunnel system drastically reduces travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan. The New Zhukeng Great Bridge isn’t just a bridge. It’s a symbol of China’s ambitious infrastructure projects. The entire Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link spans an incredible 49.7 kilometers. It includes a series of bridges and tunnels like the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Tunnel and the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Bridge. The project began in May 2017 and opened on June 30, 2024. It cost approximately US$4.83 billion. This link is strategically located about 27 kilometers downriver from the Humen Bridge. This was the sole crossing point before the link’s completion. The New Zhukeng Great Bridge is also about 32 kilometers north of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge. This connects Hong Kong, Zhuhai, and Macau. The New Zhukeng Great Bridge significantly impacts the region. It facilitates easier travel and strengthens economic ties between Shenzhen and Zhongshan. Initially, the bridge experienced some congestion issues. Drivers and passengers reported long wait times, prompting some to use the older Humen Bridge. However, despite the initial challenges, the New Zhukeng Great Bridge has proven its worth. Within its first month, the Shenzhen–Zhongshan Link saw over 3 million vehicle crossings. The New Zhukeng Great Bridge stands as a testament to engineering ingenuity. It symbolizes the rapid development and interconnectedness of the Pearl River Delta region.
