In 1988 a new church began in Long Beach. It was called Cambodian Baptist Church. Pastor and Mrs Esposito and their baby son Joseph were there. So was Pastor Meyers’ family. They held their first service at MacArthur Park’s recreational center. This Pacific Baptist Church’s humble beginning focused on Cambodian refugees.
Pacific Baptist Church wasn’t always Pacific Baptist Church. It started small. Reaching out to a specific community. As it grew it welcomed people from all backgrounds. The name changed to reflect this inclusivity. The church blossomed. Hundreds then thousands found faith.
Over the years Pacific Baptist Church expanded its mission. It started many ministries. These served people of all ages ethnicities and backgrounds. Pastor Esposito’s illness in 2013 led to Steve Meyers becoming interim pastor. He’d been there from the start. He played a vital role in the church’s growth. He was unanimously voted in as pastor.
Pastor Meyers shared a vision. Reaching the community discipling converts. He wanted to make an impact worldwide. The church staff largely consisted of people who’d found faith through its ministries. Membership soared to over 1000. The church continued to grow.
In 1991 Pacific Baptist School opened its doors. In 2004 Pacific Baptist Bible College a four-year institution was founded. In 2009 Pacific Baptist Church planted a new church in Monterey Park. This successful outreach further extended the church’s reach.
Pacific Baptist Church’s story is one of growth and expansion. It started small serving a specific community. It grew to encompass a diverse congregation. The church’s work extends beyond Long Beach. It includes educational institutions and church planting efforts. Its legacy is built on faith dedication and a commitment to spreading the gospel. The church continues to grow reaching out to serve and inspire.
