Originally named Wat Sam Kuti Wat Amon Khiri stands proudly in Bangkok. Built in 1827 it’s a royal temple under the Maha Nikaya Sangha. This serene temple is located in the Bang Yi Khan Subdistrict. It occupies a flat area of 10 rai 3 ngan 94 square wa. Today a royal priesthood serves as abbot.

The main sanctuary buildings including the ubosot are constructed from brick and cement. Intricate murals adorn the interior walls. These murals tell the story of Buddhism. They depict the Buddha’s birth enlightenment and nirvana. They also illustrate the 13 chapters of Vessantara the Buddha’s previous life. The central Buddha statue is surrounded by depictions of Buddhist deities. The sermon hall is a unique half-timbered structure. Six monks’ cloisters stand on the grounds. One is a full building. Five more are half-timbered structures.
