Founded in 1984 City View Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith and resilience. Its story begins with Matthew Recker a Caribbean immigrant who established the church. For five years he served as its pastor. Then Pastor Recker left to start another church. Several pastors followed each serving for short periods. The church faced both spiritual and financial hardships.
The congregation purchased a building for $500000. The monthly mortgage payment was close to $5000. This was a significant financial burden. The church persevered. In the mid-1990s a turning point arrived. Bryan Taitt a deacon at City View was called to become the pastor.
Under Pastor Taitt’s leadership City View embraced reformation. The church adopted the 1689 Confession of Faith. A series of Bible conferences followed. Prominent pastors like Achille Blaize from the UK and Belton Brevard from Grace Reformed Baptist Church in Newark NJ helped guide this transformation. City View continued inviting reformed pastors strengthening its reformed distinctives.
During this period the church expanded its ministry to Zimbabwe Africa. Today City View Baptist Church boasts approximately 60 members. Five men serve as deacons. A full-time elder leads in word and doctrine. After 35 years City View remains steadfast in its mission. The church promotes Jesus Christ through preaching biblical worship and holy living. Through God’s grace the church paid off its building. Now City View can further expand its gospel outreach beyond its walls. This is a story of perseverance faith and God’s unwavering support.
