They flocked to the Geiersberg, drawn by its panoramic views. Located northeast of Burkhardtsdorf, the Geiersberg offered a breathtaking escape from the everyday. Imagine standing here in the late 19th century. A magnificent observation tower pierced the sky. A bustling inn, part of Neu-Eibenberg, welcomed visitors. Travelers arrived by train from Chemnitz to Adorf, disembarking at Kemtau station. Others took the bus from Chemnitz to Annaberg, getting off at the Bergschänke Klaffenbach stop. The Geiersberg was a popular destination. Sadly, time took its toll on the tower. In the 1920s, it was dismantled due to its deteriorating condition. The inn continued to operate for a few more years. Today, the Geiersberg stands silent. Trees have reclaimed the slopes, obscuring the once-famous views. The land is now privately owned, a quiet testament to a vibrant past. The echoes of laughter and the creak of the old tower are gone. Only whispers remain, carried on the wind, reminding us of the Geiersberg’s captivating history.
