Standing before TP Chimie, we’re at the heart of chemical innovation in Nice. This building is part of the Université Côte d’Azur. TP Chimie is linked to the Institut de Chimie de Nice ICN.

The ICN has a rich history. It evolved from early laboratories in the area. The Institut de Chimie de Nice was officially founded in 2012. In 2022, it celebrated its 10th anniversary.

ICN is also affiliated with the CNRS. That is the French National Centre for Scientific Research. The institute focuses on several key research areas. These include aroma and perfume chemistry. Medicinal chemistry is another focus. Also radiochemistry and material chemistry are important.

The “Aromas – Perfumes – Synthesis – Modeling” team develops new fragrance molecules. They study how these molecules are perceived. The “Bioactive Molecules” team synthesizes antiviral and antitumor molecules. They also study their activity in vitro.

The “Human and Environmental Radiochemistry” team studies nuclear activity’s impact. They look at its effects on the environment and humans. The “Eco-Compatible Materials and Polymers” team promotes a bio-based economy. They also focus on sustainable development.

TP Chimie houses the Chemistry Technology Platform PFTC. This platform serves both public researchers and companies. It provides specialized services and expertise. These services are supported by ICN researchers. The PFTC has a technical team. This team is led by Dr. Mohamed Mehiri.

The platform offers nuclear magnetic resonance services. Mass spectrometry is also available. Molecular modeling and imaging are further services.

ICN has a strong network of international relations. They participate in European projects. They coordinate international grants. They are involved in Euro-Mediterranean projects.

The Institut de Chimie de Nice has a dedicated team. It consists of 41 permanent staff members. This includes CNRS researchers and faculty members. There are also technical and administrative staff. In addition, non-tenured staff and doctoral students contribute.

The ICN focuses on diverse research topics. These include targeting odorant compounds. They study plant biodiversity. Biomolecular chirality is another area. Catalysis, synthesis methodologies, and fine chemistry are important. Sustainable chemistry is also a key focus. They research the synthesis of bioactive molecules. They also develop new therapeutic strategies. Other research includes marine products and fluorescent probes. They study radionuclides in environmental compartments. They research eco-compatible materials and polymers.

The ICN received the “Academic Innovation” award in 2014. This recognized its knowledge transfer activities. Several researchers have also received prestigious prizes.

TP Chimie and the ICN contribute significantly. They advance chemical sciences. They achieve this through fundamental research. They also contribute to local partnerships. The ICN has even created five start-up companies. It is a central part of the Université Côte d’Azur.
