You’re standing on Oxford Avenue, looking at the imposing brick facade of Frankford High School. It’s a grand old building, full of history and a sense of community. Imagine the hallways buzzing with students, their laughter echoing in the grand old halls. Frankford High School stands as a beacon of education in the Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood, a place where young minds have been ignited for over a century!

Frankford High wasn’t always a bustling high school filled with students. Its story is a little bit unusual. It originally opened up in 1910 as an annex of Central High School – imagine that, just a wing of another school! It didn’t have a stadium for years, and that changed in 1922. It wasn’t until 1954 that the school got a gym! They added an extension to the lunchroom in 1965, and the new wing was added in 1970. Frankford High, although a big school now, truly grew into its own in stages!

The school’s colors were borrowed from Central High School – gold and crimson – but Frankford added the color blue to create its own distinct identity. They call themselves the Pioneers, an apt name for a school that has been at the forefront of education for decades!

Frankford High has seen its share of changes through the decades, but one thing’s for sure: the school is still a place where young people are learning, growing, and achieving their dreams. It’s a place where the spirit of the Pioneers lives on.
