Within the heart of Chiang Mai University, amidst the vibrant greenery and serene atmosphere, lies a beacon of scientific inquiry. The Faculty of Science, a proud testament to the pursuit of knowledge, stands tall with its diverse departments, each a sanctuary for the exploration of the natural world. Established in 1964, alongside the birth of Chiang Mai University itself, the Faculty of Science has served as a cornerstone for scientific education and research in Northern Thailand. Its mission to impart knowledge and nurture future generations of scientists is as relevant today as it was over half a century ago.

You might be surprised to learn that the Faculty of Science is one of the original three faculties established at Chiang Mai University. It emerged from the ground up, alongside the other crucial departments, fueled by the ambitious vision of Chiang Mai University. In its early days, the Faculty of Science offered only five Bachelor’s degree programs, including Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geological Sciences. But as time marched on, so did its ambitions. In 1974, a new wave of academic offerings arrived: eight Master’s Degree Programs, ranging from teaching Biology to studying the intricate workings of Physics.

But there’s more to this story. The Faculty of Science boasts the prestigious title of being the first faculty in Chiang Mai University to offer Doctoral Degree Programs. This landmark achievement came in 1989, and it started with three PHD Programs in Physics, Biology, and Geological Sciences. With this pioneering move, the Faculty of Science secured its place as a leading force in higher education and research, not only for Chiang Mai University but for the entire region. Today, it stands as a vibrant hub of academic excellence, with a diverse range of disciplines and a commitment to innovation. The Faculty of Science continues to inspire generations of students to explore the mysteries of the universe and contribute to the scientific advancement of Thailand and beyond.
