This charming building, dating back to the 1850s, has seen quite a bit of history. Wissahickon Hall was originally part of a series of inns and “roadhouses”, basically old-timey bars, that lined the Wissahickon Gorge in the 19th century. Back then, this place was hopping with guests enjoying waffles and catfish, all while enjoying the stunning views of the creek. Speaking of the creek, imagine the scene in 1868 when locals pulled in a record-breaking 3,000 fish right from those waters! Over time, Wissahickon Hall transitioned from a bustling inn to a station house for Fairmount Park, and later, a home to the Philadelphia Police Department’s 92nd District. Today, after some renovations, this historic landmark houses the city’s Urban Forestry Division, continuing its legacy as a vital part of Philadelphia’s story.
